Here is a Q & A interview I did on a podcast last week about the industry and WHY I love what I do.
Q: What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
The most rewarding thing about what I do, is that l ENJOY doing it. It doesn’t get old for me and I don’t feel like I work. The traveling and the places it has taken me are amazing. Having people that want to be around you is a great feeling, the opportunity to influence is big to me. Being able to plant seeds and make an impact on people is what keeps me going. When you influence people, they respect you and you have their attention. To impact someone means to able to make a difference in their lives and that’s what I enjoy doing.
Q: What are some qualities needed to be successful in this profession?
Passion for the game. Passion is love, energy, and emotion that you have for basketball. People feel passion, it gives the other person enough energy for whatever they’re doing. It gets people’s attention and keeps them engaged. Without passion, you’re dead, stuck being mediocre and status quo. Confidence is key, knowing what you are talking about. Nobody is going to listen to you if you aren’t confident. Grit which is persistence or how you respond to something is an important quality. When you fail or are criticized, what is your response? 90% of life is what happens to you and 10% is how you respond. That 10% keeps you in the 90%. Faith. When you face grit, you don’t quit because you have faith and belief in yourself. Courage and swag go together as other keys to success in this industry. Swag can be broken down as:
Q: If you could go do it all again, would you get into the same career?
I would try to play as long as I can. I envisioned myself playing until I was 40-42 but it didn’t work out that way so I had to figure something out, and this is what I love to do. I have been blessed to be in this position that I am and wouldn’t have gotten here without some of the things basketball has taught me.
