Ganon Baker grew up playing with talented athletes on the notorious outdoor courts of Hampton, Virginia. Realizing he needed to improve his skills to gain an edge, Ganon developed an amazing work ethic at a young age. He trained for hours everyday and was rarely seen without a basketball. Even chores and leisure activities were done with a ball in hand.
At age 12, Ganon hit a bump in the road when he broke his little finger on his shooting hand. Turning the obstacle into a challenge, he applied the same intense work ethic and developed his left non-shooting hand. After his right hand was healed, Ganon suddenly found himself with two scoring weapons. This is how he became an ambidextrous shooter.
Due to Ganon’s hard work and determination, he developed into a high school star. He played for Hampton High School and helped the Crabbers win the 1989 State Championship. Ganon received offers from over 20 Division I schools and chose Duquesne University in 1990. As a freshman starting point guard, Ganon was named to the All-Rookie Team of the Atlantic Ten. He later transferred to UNC-Wilmington where he won the CAA conference’s first Dean Ehler’s Leadership Award. In addition, Ganon played briefly for summer leagues in Austria and France and for many pro-am leagues here in the states.
After college, Ganon decided to further his education. While in graduate school, Ganon started his coaching career as a graduate assistant. After receiving his master’s degree, Ganon continued developing his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Belmont Abbey men’s team in North Carolina and for the Coastal Carolina University men’s team in South Carolina.
By keeping in shape and continuing to train, Ganon earned a contract to play professionally in Iceland. Unfortunately, a torn tendon ankle injury sidelined his plans. After surgery, Ganon spent the next month rehabilitating and working on his game…in a wheelchair. He adapted his normal individual training drills for his wheelchair and practiced with the same intensity as before.
Due to this injury, Ganon had time to think about his future. And this is when the idea was born for basketball personal training services. This idea grew and ultimately became what is now Ganon Baker Basketball Services, INC.

“Ganon Baker is exceptional; he studies the game; he relates to players of all ages; he motivates like no one else….being an NBA coach, I can honestly say that players at this level not only improve but they enjoy the process as well. If you have a chance to observe one of his clinics, one of his workouts, or actually be trained by him, you have to do it….you will absolutely be glad you did!!!” — Kevin Eastman, Boston Celtics Assistant Coach, Nike Skill Academy Director
“I was really impressed with Ganon Baker’s demonstration and teaching. The players really respond to his style of coaching. He definitely had a captive group of athletes. He is a very gifted individual. It is clear that he has worked to master fresh and original teaching methods. He combines an engaging communication style with functional and fundamentally sound instruction. The energy, enthusiasm and passion he brings to individual instruction are a cut above anything I’ve seen other than Coach Grgurich. That puts him in pretty rare company. Well done!” – Steve Lavin, Former UCLA Head Coach and ABC/ESPN College Basketball Analyst, Current Head Coach of St. Johns University
“I was fortunate enough that Ganon Baker came to work with some of my players during his visit to Sydney in February 2005. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable from a skills perspective. Further, the impressive thing about Ganon was his ability to actually demonstrate, with unbelievable competency, the techniques he spoke about. He was patient, spoke with clarity and had very high energy levels. He had a very charismatic personality with a “can do” approach to life so my players benefited far more than just from a basketball skills perspective. I would be delighted for him to spend more time with the players in my program.” — Brian Goorjian, Head Coach of the Sydney Kings, Australian Professional League National Champions, Australia Olympic Coach
“Ganon Baker is one of the best teachers of the game. I have never felt so comfortable dribbling and shooting the ball. I am a better player now because of the effort and work ethic he teaches with. It is contagious!”– DeMya Walker
I hired Ganon and he is one of the best trainers in the world, I love working out with him.” – Amar’e Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns)
God has always been in my life but I have not always given him the glory. I was saved in Vienna, Austria in August of 1993. There, in a hotel room, I gave my life to Jesus. I was touring with a Pro-hoops team for 3 weeks. Sin and temptations seem to follow athletes. While there, I decided to live for more than just basketball.
I had brought “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale (given to me by my grandfather) with me to Austria. It and the hotel’s Gideon Bible were the only things in English I could understand. I felt the Holy Spirit’s conviction one night and gave my life to the Lord.
Since then, my walk has been a roller coaster, but I have relied on Jesus through the good and bad. In 1999, I felt compelled to start praising the Lord publicly. I had become a stronger Christian and this was my next step. In 2001, God blessed me with Shake N’ Bake Basketball Services. He gave me the gift of basketball talent so now I use this gift to serve him. He expands my territory and strengthens my faith everyday.
God is my coach, the Bible is my playbook, and I talk to my coach through prayer. I not only want to be a good basketball player, but a player of life as well. I will do my best everyday to serve him.
To God be the Glory!
