Bryce Bow
Bryce Bow is currently the Athletic Director and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Florida Christian College in Kissimmee, Florida (www.fcc.edu). Beyond his duties at Florida Christian, Bow also plays with and assists the Florida Flight, a semi-professional team from the Orlando area competing in the Continental Basketball League (www.flighthoops.com). In the summers, Bow also works for DistinXion, a basketball training organization started by former Indiana Mr. Basketball and professional player, Luke Zeller, which emphasizes character and leadership development along with top-notch basketball instruction (www.DistinXion.org).
A native of Muncie, Indiana, Bow was a three sport athlete at Delta High School in Muncie, Indiana. During his time there, he earned All-State honors in tennis and accumulated multiple individual championships in track, but his first love has always been basketball. During his senior year of basketball, Bow shot an impressive 48% from three-point territory, was named to multiple all-area teams, and helped lead his team to a prestigious Indiana Sectional Championship. Soon after, Bow signed a letter of intent to continue his playing career for the Goshen College Maple Leafs in Goshen, Indiana.
While at Goshen, Bow was a two year Team Captain and was twice named an NAIA Academic All-American. Most recently, Bow was an Assistant Coach for the Leafs, a team that finished the 2009-2010 season with 18 wins, the #2 strength of schedule in the country at their level, a #11 final RPI ranking, and a First-Team All-American and current professional player in Israel, senior guard Errick McCollum II.
During his summers in college, Bryce had the opportunity to be on the summer basketball staff at Duke University, Notre Dame University, and Purdue University for four years. It was here that he was able to get a firsthand glimpse into what a premier college hoops program looks like, all while being able to network with some of the finest minds in the game and teach basketball to kids from all over the country. Bow has also served with “Hoops on the Rez”, a basketball camp on the Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona, the last three summers.
“I feel like I have been “wired” to play and teach the game of basketball. I’ve been blessed to play and coach at a wide range of levels and environments up to this point in my life, and I’ve undoubtedly taken valuable bits and pieces from each one. On the court we’ll get after it, we’ll push the limits and move outside our comfort zone, and explore basketball concepts and drills that you’ve never seen or heard before; you’ll know that at the end of your workout, you truly earned your sweat; that you’ve gotten better today. I can promise you that. But more importantly, I think it’s crucial to teach the life lessons and life skills that you can learn from the game of basketball that truly transcend the game of basketball. So we’re gonna talk about things like proper study skills and habits, discipline, taking care of your body, integrity, choices, the mental approach to the game, goals, communication, and other concepts that separate the average player and the great player, the person wading through mediocrity in life and the person pursuing excellence. Life is bigger than basketball. Your training should be too.”
